Brazil: high season for travel?

I am hoping to visit Brazil in October. Airfares jumped significantly from mid-September to the first of October. Is this because of a high travel season? What else might be the reason?

I've found that usually airfares to South America (from Australia at least) dip in September. Are you flying from north America?

For brazilian people is not high season. The high season in Brazil is January, during the Carnaval week and in July (usually during school vacations).

July--there was a noticeable difference when July turned to Aug. More people in July, fewer in Aug.
