Baggage Restrictions on Perurail trains to and from Machu Picchu

I just got my confirmation email from Perurail for my wife and my trip to Machu Picchu. The email says that you are only allowed to take 5kg/11lbs of one bag/backpack with you. Are they strict about this rule on the backpacker trains? My wife and I will only have our roll aboards that are carry on size for airplanes, but they will weigh probably around 20lbs. Will we have to pay more for this? We need to take our baggage with us as we are staying overnight in Aguas Calientes and can't leave it in Cusco or Ollantaytambo!

When I went, Peru Rail was not strict on weighing your bag. They didn't weigh ours. They don't like big luggage though because there is only so much luggage storage space in each car. There is no luggage car. So, it all depends on the counter agent you get...if it looks big, then it will probably get weighed and you may have to pay a surcharge

We did a trek and our luggage was a duffle bag each. Made for easy transport and looked small.

I was just there in December and they didn't check. My husband and I shared a small suitcase.
