General Dress advice San Diego Restaurant

My husband and I are going to S.D. mid March for several days. I would like to know for an p.m. dinner at for instance Georges at the Cove, what would be the general dress for men? I know San Diego is a very casual town, but for a dressy place on the beach we have been wondering what would be acceptable. Should he bring a suit?
Thanks in advance.

I don't think you'll need a suit. Men in San Diego tend to dress quite casually, and if you're going somewhere upscale for dinner a sport coat and dress slacks would be more than adequate.

A sportcoat without a tie would be plenty dressy. At most places, he wouldn't even need a sportcoat.
George's web site is www.georgesatthecove.com.

Agree with Underhill-no suit. You can even get away without a sport coat at Georges. Might want sport coat for a dinner at say AR Valarien at Lodge at Torrey Pines.

Definitely skip the suit.
Nothing wrong with a sportcoat and tie if he wants to do that, but sportcoat and buttoned up polo-type shirt will suffice just fine. You'll see men there without coats at all, as well.
