Can someone recommend a nice hotel in Ocean City that is resort-like. I'm not sure which location is best. I want ot be near the shops and restaurants but not in the center of all the crowds. I'm thinking of the Princes Royal or the larion or either of the Holiday Inns. Any advice?

There is a Holiday Inn on 121st (I think) that is resort like. It has a nice pool with hammocks and palm trees. The beach is quieter and away from the trash and noise of the boardwalk. I stayed there last summer and found it nice to get away from the lower streets.

My recommendation is to stay anywhere but the Clarion. We expected to have an excellent stay and were so disappointed with the service we received. We stayed there earlier this year and were quite upset to find that the room we had booked under the impression that it had a sea view had no view at all. The check-in staff did nothing to help us which totally ruined our stay. You could say it was our fault for not reading the small print but the description in the brochure was very misleading. If you do decide to stay there make sure you ask for a full sea view room so as not to be as disappointed as we were. Have a fantastic vacation whichever hotel you decide to stay at.

I just booked a small efficiency at the Dunes Motel in OC (I am a midwesterner-and knew what you were asking) The rates were reasonable, it is located at the end of the boardwalk-trolley right next door if you want to go to the end of boardwalk. I researched a lot of places, got a lot of brochures. They have a variety of rooms. Seems to be a nice place, but was not able to get any info out of this crowd! Seems not many people here go to "OC"

I would recommend Fager's Island, while not right on the beach, it offers a different, more upscale atmosphere. Princess Royale is further north, so it isn't quite as crowded and is nice as well. The Holiday Inn is older, but has a nice (crowded) pool bar. Enjoy your stay!

Try Fager's Island - it's like it's own resort then walk up the street to Seacrets and sit in inner tubes and have a nice cooling drink to sip on. All on the bayside and a lot of fun.
For all you non-metro DC/Maryland people OC is the terminology that covers Ocean City Maryland - it just isn't referred to by it's full name. Perhaps that's why Ocean City NJ is called by its full name. In this way they are totally separate and different. Heading down Rt 50 to OC is about as good as it gets on any day.

we have been going to OC for vacation the past 10-15 years, our children are now grown and my husband and I still go every year...we usually stay in a condo...they rent sat to sat or sun to sun...we stay at ocean one on the boardwalk and decatur house..we've also stayed at the howard johnson on 23rd street..nice and clean..but no outdoor pool...we like the atmosphere on the boardwalk so always try to stay there...you could also try carribean tides
