Seeking info and/or tips for getting to Frank Lloyd Wright property

Hi. Will be, with 3 long time friends, in Chicago next month for a long weekend. We’re interested in touring the FLW studio and home but understand it to take a minimum of two vehicles (bus, then green line) and an hour+ from the DoubleTree on Ohio. Does this sound right and reasonable? Should we get a ride share for comfort? We’re capable and reasonably fit and don’t mind public transportation, generally. I would appreciate any advice or suggestions offered.

Oh - and what do you think about Bonci Pizza? I’ve enjoyed it in Rome. Does it hold up in Chicago? From my last visit to Chicago. I learned that I don’t care for deep dish.

It's walkable from the Green Line stop in Oak Park to Frank Lloyd Wright's house

Yes, it will take an hour plus by public transportation but I think there are alternatives that get you closer than that green line stop which is still 0.7 miles away. Such as two busses, bus 65 west to the Grand/Nordica stop then bus 307 south on Harlem to Chicago St, that studio is just about 2 blocks east of there. Bus 65 runs west on Grand which is just a short walk from that hotel. Your call on the so-called ride shares, i wouldn't use them as i don't think Uber drivers know what they're doing very well in Chicago and may not even know the city well.

Deep Dish is the most famous pizza from Chicago, but it is not the only one. There are many Chicagoans who don't care for it. There is also Chicago Thin Crust (toppings go al the way out to the edge and the cheese drapes over the side and gets darkened), and Chicago Pan Pizza, a bit thicker than thin crust. In the area of the FLW home and studios, there is Millie's in the Pan Pizza s well as Freddy's. Two great options that are not deep dish. However, it could be that none of it will be your cup of tea.

I have heard good things about Bonci when it first opened, but not a whisper since the pandemic.

Considering there are four of you, ride share sounds like a good way to go. There are quite a few places to visit out that way: Unity Temple, Pleasant Home, plus you can take a self-guided audio walking tour of the FLW properties in Oak Park. It's a whole day.
