October trip

Driving from Boston airport going up to vermont second week of October, Hopefully colors are good. I plan to drive across northwestern Mass, going to Concord, to Shelburne Falls, Mohawk trail through North Adams , Williamstown and up to Bennington, VT, just found out they cancelled my stay, which was only one night. Not sure if I should look in the same area or somewhere else. Planning on driving to White River Junction the next day and also not sure if if we should go across towards Brattleboro up the 100 or go up 7A towards Manchester then go on the 11 to 100 onto 4 towards White River Junction.

Start looking for accommodations in Williamstown, because I suspect that Vermont is fully booked during leaf-peeping season.

If it turns out that you have to go to Brattleboro for accommodations, take VT 30 until you come to VT 100 which you will take until you see signs for Woodstock.

If you are in the White River Junction area on saturday, the Norwich Farmers Market is great. You'll be able to get some prepared food for a coffee or lunch break. If you are planning on returning to Boston via I89 to I93 expect extremely heavy traffic southbound on sat and sunday afternoons. Recently I89 on a holiday weekend near Concord NH was described as a parking lot.

this website shows current foliage conditions and could help you map the best routes for good color
https://www.vermont.com/foliage.cfm

Foliage peaks earlier farther north and in higher elevations. If it rains, leaves can come down fast.

If your plans are open, we much preferred Brattleboro to Bennington, and especially liked the Saturday farmers market in Brattleboro. Just a comfortable small town with a lot of character and some good restaurants. We just didn't connect all that much with Bennington.

If you can get a reservation, go to Manchester up Rt.7 north.

I'm a big fan of Brattleboro VT. Used to live there would still be there is winters weren't so harsh. I absolutely adore the Rt 9 drive between Bennington to Brattleboro in the fall. Back to the Massachusetts part I like Amherst, Northampton, Deerfield.

If you're a movie fan, there's another attraction in Vermont not to be missed. Jenne Farm is located off Route 106 in Redding, Vermont. It is one of the most photographed farms in the world and is the scene featured in Forrest Gump.
