You you will first have to give us more info: "medium price" doesn't tell us anything - what is you actual budget per night? When? - time of year affects rates. How many people? What sort(s) of accommodation? B&B, hotel, rental cottage/apartment, hostel?
Then we can help more.

In Ballater we stayed at: https://www.thegordonguesthouse.com/
Wonderful host and right across from the old train station where Queen Victoria used when she went down the road to her house.

We are going in May 2020 -6 adults and no car.
We have a booking at the Old School House - the Gordon is not available.
Walking distance is less than 30 min walk.
Thanks for your prompts. Just looking for others experiences in that area.

>>There is a Old School House in Hutton le Hole<<
I'm pretty sure the OP means the Old School house in Ballater.
HOWEVER -- what do you plan on doing in Ballater without a car?? And how are you getting there?
For York -- you still need to give a us a budget . . . (Anything in central York will be walking distance to the Minster, either within the city walls or just outside them)
