The old town of Nice is called the Vielle Ville not the Latin Quarter.

A really beautiful hotel in Nice is La Perouse. It commands magnificent views of the Baie des Anges and is next to the Colline du Ch teau.

I recommend day trips to Beaulieau-sur-Mer, Cap St Jean Ferrat, and Antibes. Take the train from Nice Ville.

Re Cote d'Azur trains - be sure to take the local commuter trains which frequently run right along the coast - stopping every few miles - flat fare really cheap but avoid the long-distance and TGV trains which cost more and require seat reservations (TGVs) before boarding. Local trains have no seat reservations at all - just hop on with valid ticket (cancel own ticket before boarding in date-stamping machines in stations and on platforms or else your ticket will not considered to be valid) - buy a return (aller et retour billet) ticket if day tripping.

For a taste of Italy take these trains to Ventimiglia - an Italian seaside town that is well real Italian.

An excursion few tourists but many French take goes by train from Nice by the narrow-gauge Chemins de fer de Provence into the hinterlands of Provence and a whole different world than the glitzy coastal areas - a sleepy Provence with sleepy old towns - lots of hiking trails between stations. Annot is one nice town to get off at. Trains leave from a station next door to Nice's Nice-Ville mainline station. No need to reserve and cheap - not a fancy train at all. Nicknamed the Train des Pignes or pine trees:
