Just a note of clarification. Gramercy Park is a private park and the keyholders are people who live in the buildings facing it. The restaurant would be in the area near Gramercy Park.
The park itself and the surrounding buildings are probably the place in NYC that most resembles London.

Sorry ... I don't know Novita. I am eating in a couple of weeks at Maialino, a Roman-style restaurant, in that neighborhood. It's supposed to be excellent, so I'm hopeful.
If you are willing to go a little but further afield, Bistango is an excellent inexpensive Italian restaurant at 28th/3rd Avenue. It's a neighborhood favorite, so you need to make a reservation the day before or day of, particularly on a weekend. But I highly recommend it, though it's not a traditional red sauce place.

I agree that Maialino would be a good bet. I especially like their fried artichokes, chicken a la diavola, and both the suckling pig and the pasta made from the meat of the suckling pig. All of the pastas, or at least the ones I've tried, are quite good.
Other good bet in that area is Ciano.

Novita is a favorite of a relative of mine, but I've not been.
