Dinner near Gramercy Park Hotel
I will be staying here at the end of April.
Looking for FABULOUS restaurants ($-$$$$) for early dinners. I will be alone and usually get dinner pretty early... around 530p. Not into the bar scene at all. I am not hip
I love fresh, clean food. I'm not really interested in heavy hot foods, steaks or pasta.
Is SushiSamba still good?
I love tartare, sushi, ceviche, salads and other 'cold' food.
Please help me make the right choice!

If you don't mind walking a bit, (or take the bus up 3rd Ave) to 30th and 3rd for Iron Sush Chef, very good sushi there, also around the corner on Lex and 30th is another EXCELLENT sushi restaurant Mishima,
On Irving Place across the park from your hotel is Chirishi, and that too is very good.

If you like seafood...hot or cold, you might try the Blue Water Grill....not far from your hotel in the Union Square Area. ...it is pricey but elegant.
As others have said, Yama is a very popular Japanese place....there is often a line outside ( i don't know if they take reservations)
The Union Square Area has many fine restaurants ....there is a large Greenmarket outside on most days of the week ( I think it is on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday) There are many fresh fruits and veggies in addition to fresh breads and pies and juice etc. If the weather is nice you can snack and stroll!!

TX - not sure if it's still open, but check out Pure Food and Wine - www.purefoodandwine.com at 54 Irving and 17th Street (Just south of Grammercy Park) it's very high quality raw vegan food - not my taste but perhaps you will like it.
More my style is Casa Mono, Batali's Spanish tapas place - hip, crowded, convivial, lusty food. Early is good there - but it's not really what you're looking for in terms of simplicity.
Sushi Samba is still there, Yama and Blue Water Grill are both good.
You might also like Pump Energy Food (21st bet. park Ave and Bway) for a quick light lunch. There is also a good make your own salad place, Tossed on Lexington and 22nd Street - but they are strictly take out places.
There is new, much talked about place, Japonais which is supposed to be FABULOUSly expensive and beautiful - haven't been, but the sushi is supposed to be good.
There is also much yak about the restaurant that is scheduled to open in your hotel (Lucky you to get to stay there!!!) but the restaurant is soo behind schedule, I don't think it will be open when you hit town.
