San Francisco to Oregon - road trip!!!
My husband and I are planning a 5 day, 5 night road trip from San Francisco to some end point in Oregon. The only thing we know we want to do for sure is stay in a treehouse and visit Crater Lake.
We would love any suggestions for a good route and sights!!!!

When is this trip? Rooms at Crater lake and the treehouse book up quite far ahead. Also, assuming you'll also want to see the CA/OR coast/redwoods 5 days is a very short time.
Hwy 1 and 101 from SF to Crescent is about 3 days by itself - and that is fairly rushed. Then cutting inland to Cave Junction/Grants Pass/ Crater Lake finishes up your 5 days. And that is w/o seeing any of the glorious Oregon coast.
On 1/101 you can see Point Arena, Mendocino, Ft Bragg, Avenue of the Giants, Ferndale, and Redwoods National Park. Then from Crescent city cut over on 199 to Cave Junction. (199 is a slow road).

Hey all - I was looking at the those treehouses in Takilma - they look amazing. We are planning to leave September 1st-2nd and come back around the 6th. We are tossing around the idea of flying to Portland or somewhere in Oregon and then driving down. I'm going to call the treehouse place tomorrow and see if they have any weekday availability and then plan accordingly.
I agree 5 days is a short time. But we thought we could do SF to the Oregon Coast in 2 days, 1 night to get more time in Oregon.

That is Labor Day weekend - things will be very crowded, and many places will have a 2 night minimum. Good Luck
SF to Crescent City is 300 miles of slow driving. And Crescent city to Crater Lake is about 175 miles of mostly even slower driving. Plus each leg has MANY places to stop along the way. A 1-night trip to Crescent City is basically just get in the car and drive . . .w/o visiting any of the sites along the way.
