Where in guanacaste?
Hi, we are planning our Aug. HM a 15 day trip. So far have plans for river rafting, Manuel antonio and would like to end in a relaxed beach setting where we can do some great fishing and relaxation. Im having trouble deciding between Tamarindo and surrounding areas of Guanacaste or if we should venture further South by plane Near the osa Pennisula. Anyone have any fabulous places they can reccomend for either. We are hoping to take travel by air within the country for the last leg of the trip so distance is not necessarily an issue. However, if there is not that much difference between tamarindo and the areas further south towards the pennisula we would rather not use up the travel time. any advice is much appreciated. You are probably better off in Guanacaste than further south in August. The weather is drier in the northwest corner than in other places in CR.
Tamarindo itself has become a bit busy and touristy for my taste but there are other towns in that area that may be more relaxing. Flamingo will satisfy the fishing aspect but is rather Americanized otherwise. You may want to check Sugar Beach further north.
It sounds like you would also enjoy Punta Islita (just south of Samara) - it sounds like a great place to relax and I believe they can arrange fishing as well.
A favorite of mine is a bit further south (but still on the Nicoya Peninsula): Florblanca Hotel in Malpais/Santa Teresa. Definitely in the fabulous category and very relaxing.

Hi Iza, thanks for the responce. A follow up question to your reply. You mentioned the further south we go the more rain we shall see. Is Punta isleta enough south that there will be a large difference in weather from say sugar beach? Good that you mentioned punta isleta that is infact where we are hoping to stay but not if it means 4 days of constant rain.

We went to CR 3 times and all of those trips were in August. As long as you are on the Nicoya Peninsula, you should have drier weather - that would include Florblanca, Punta Islita and Sugar Beach. By further south, I meant the areas south of Manuel Antonio, including Osa Peninsula which are generally more humid and more rainy in the green season.
Keep in mind that even when it rains, it is not constant rain. Usually, mornings and early afternoons are clear and sunny with clouds rolling in later in the day and sometimes rain for a couple of hours in the afternoon or evening. It will not rain everyday and never all day.
