Leaving for Playa Del Carmen on Saturday Nov 20th for a week and just checked the weather. Seems like it might rain every day that I am there. Is that typical and when they say rain is it short-lived or typically all day affairs? Will be really disappointed if the entire week is rained out. Any one been there enough this time of year to tell me whether I should be bringing a lot of rain gear?

You don't need rain gear because the temps will still be hot, even if it does rain. If it's raining in Mexico at the beach, you just get wet, then you get dry ;-) Bring an umbrella if you want, but no need for "rain gear".

I'm no expert on PdC but November is not the rainy season. It would be unusual for it to rain 24/7. More likely showers blow thru on occasion, or it turns out to be gorgeous (Mexican weather forecasts are notoriously inaccurate).

Yes, probably was a dumb idea to think about bringing rain gear, so used to the weather here in the Northeast. Thanks, I am hoping you are correct about the inaccurate Mexican weather forecasts because what I saw today was a little unsettling. It looked like it was going to rain a lot every single day that we are there except the day we arrive!!!

So, maybe I just won't look at the weather reports anymore!! Thanks so much for your reply. It made me feel a lot better!

I always go to Puerto Vallarta. And people go thru this all the time for PV. That the weather forecast looks horrible, but that turns out not to be true. Now if it was July/August ('rainy season') you were headed south, my answer would be different. But by mid-November weather typically is good at most all coastal resorts, both sides.

What you need for rain in Mexico is different from at home. Rubber shoes are good (flip-flops or crocs) something that if they get wet will dry quickly. It's too hot to wear a poncho or a raincoat.

It can be hot, it might also be quite cool. I was there last week and we had just a few showers, even tho the predictions were for rain every day. We had day temps in the mid 80's and also a few days only in the 70's. It's very hard to predict this time of year but I do know for sure after spending many years vacationing in PdC, forecasts almost always show rain and usually it's just in passing showers.

I would recommend an umbrella and one or two light jackets or fleeces for evening's.

We go to that area every year and have never been rained out. We were in Cozumel last December and the temps were perfect. However, too cool for the non-heated hotel pool, but the ocean temps were perfect. If it does rain, it's only for a short while and then back to sun. Just enough to cool you off. Those weather reports are hardly ever correct. We'll be back in Playa in December.
