My TA has suggested these 2 hotels. We'll be in BA for part of our honeymoon from Dec. 30-Jan 2nd. Any reviews or suggestions on either of these hotels?

There is more than one Sofitel and there is no hotel called Recoleta, which is the name of a part of our town.

Therefore, your question cannot be answered.

I'm referring to the Sofitel Buenos Aires (http://www.sofitelbuenosaires.com.ar/) and the Ayres de Recoleta.

Congratulations on your honeymoon! We have similar plans w/ our family for next Christmas. The Sofitel Buenos Aires is supposedly one of the best hotels in BA ( ranked no. 3 or 4 on tripadvisor, if that matters to you), but it is very expensive once you add on the incredible 21% standard hotel tax in BA.

I don't know if you'd consider a small boutique hotel, but one that's been highly recommended to us over and over by our friends and partners in my husband's office is: MALABBIA HOUSE (spelling?) in Palermo, which is apparently a neighborhood very similar in feel to Soho in New York. The hotel is a renovated convent, and sounds lovely.

For big hotels, we've been looking at The Marriot Plaza in Microcentro on Plaza San Martin, which is more affordable than The Sofitel. It's one of the oldest or perhaps the oldest?? hotel in BA. And it does have some suites, if you're looking to splurge for your honeymoon.
Haven't made up our minds yet, but know that we need to do that ASAP since it's an extremely busy time of year in BA.

Thanks for your response, Weadles. I did see the ratings on tripadvisor. We're also going to Mendoza and then finishing off in Copacabana so we need to choose our splurges carefully... enjoy your trip as well!

I'm a local and therefore I don't stay in hotels, but, considering what I have read, I would say the Sofitel is of higher quality, but part of a chain, while the Ayres the Recoleta may have more "individuality", in case you like that.

After I wrote this, I saw you have already seen the TA ratings. However, your first question asked about reviews?

You must be in love, which is as it should be for someone who is planning his/her honeymoon. LOL!!!!

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! The honeymoon certainly sounds like it will be fantastic!

I have not stayed in either one, but if I were choosing..the Sofitel is just beautiful and seems to be more of a posh- be spoiled because it is your honeymoon - sort of hotel.

Ayres Recoleta is in my neighborhood and while it is nice from the outside and from what I hear about it...it doesn't have the same "cushiness" of the Sofitel. Know what I mean?

To add to the mix, the Hyatt is fabulous and so is the Four Seasons


I enjoy the forums on TripAdvisor but having experienced some reviewer problems..I would take them with a large grain of salt.

I was at the Malabia in October and loved it. You do need to know that there are some (though not all)rooms with an exterior bathroom--still your own bathroom with a key, but down the hall. I was there with a friend, so it worked out great for us. She likes to sleep later, so I could go down the hall (robes are provided) and shower and dry my hair with no worry of bothering her. The breakfast and breakfast room are lovely. The entire place has a tranquil feel.

The people were very, very nice. They met our party at the door on our arrival and knew us by name! Before we could do anything, they brought us champagne and talked to us about things we wanted to do in BA and how they could help us with making the arrangements.

I am going back to BA on Friday with my husband, but unfortunately, the Malabia House was booked. We are staying at the Art Suites.

hi there we spent part of our honeymoon in Bs As and stayed our last 2 night at Bobo Hotel in Palermo Soho. Our room was 135$US per night and included breakfast. the hotel has an exquisite restaurant as well and the service is sublime. Adjudged by some to be the nicest boutique hotel in Bs As

We stayed at the Sofitel near Recoleta last summer and really like it a lot. Great friendly staff and service with excellent breakfast. Free 24 hour internet in the 2nd floor business center. Nice upscale location. Drop off laundry, ATM's and supermarket a few minute walk from the hotel. Easy to walk into the Recoleta. I would say that it was of similar quality to many Four Seasons, Mandarin, and Ritz hotels. Certainly better than the Mandarin Washington DC last week. It is a smaller hotel than many lux hotels which gives it a much more intimate feel. The staff are very friendly and go out of their way to be helpful. We dropped off a ton of laundry at a nearby laundromat (never use hotel laundry services due to cost)
and later asked the concierge to call for us to see if the laundry was ready. The reply came in a few minutes that the clothes would be ready later during the day and that they would pick up the laundry and deliver it into our rooms. Would be a nice hotel for a honeymoon.
