Xandari & Four Seasons Questions?

My wife and I and another couple are making our first trip to Costa Rica. We won/bought a week at the Four Seasons. Looks nice. A few questions. We fly into SJO, and are spending one night at Xandari before flying on to Liberia. What can anyone tell me about Xandari? Also, we like good wines. Anywhere close to Xandari for a great meal and a great bottle. Last question - Snorkeling near the Four Seasons? I've enjoyed this forum over the last few weeks. Thanks in advance for replies.

Xandari is very nice, the villas stylish and spacious, the grounds beautiful with fruit trees, coffee and nice hiking to the waterfalls. There is also a great looking spa at the hotel. I think you will enjoy it very much for your first night. But don't count on outstanding food or wine list there. The dinner is so so and the wines mostly inexpesive Chilean. It is still a pleasant experience to eat at their restaurant which has a nice atmosphere and great views. We always ate our dinners at the hotel there but hopefully others will chime in with suggestions for other places nearby.

Ditto to above. Son and his wife stayed there last month and loved it. (Their computer is broken, not yet replaced, so I'm writing on their behalf.) Said the villas and property are spectacular. See photos on Xandari's web site--there are two pages of them. Apparently it really looks like that, but better!
They found the meals good, and the atmosphere at dining room lovely. Breakfast is included, dinner is $25/per person. Staff there was pleasant and helpful.
Kids not big wine connoisseurs, so no knowledge of where you can get that great bottle of wine.

ditto the other responders. We're just back from a 10-day trip and Xandari was our last stop. Try to get Ultra Villa #4-- superb. I agree abt the food and wine, but the restaurant experience was pleasant anyway (food in CR we found mediocre everywhere except at Villa Caletas, where it was first-rate) If you stay at Xandari, I hope you have time to do all the trails. They're all terrific. (We spent maybe 4-5 hours total strolling them-- simply magnificent! (but very up-and-downy) Have fun!

Thanks everyone. This is good confirmation of what I thought about Xandari from their web site and some of the reading I've done. Can anyone weigh in on snorkeling near the Four Seasons? Thanks.
