Westin PV or El Careyes or both?

I am trying to redeem Starwood points for a stay in Mexico this Jan or Feb. There is a special right now that allows one stay at 50% off points, a GREAT deal, but it only applies to one hotel. Here is what we are considering:

7 nights at Westin PV - 24,500 points
3 nights at Westin PV and 4 nights at El Careyes (at 50% off)- 41,000 points
5 nights at El Careyes - 25,000 points

Splitting up the stay will cost more points, obviously, but both places look really beautiful, and I am concerned that we'd get bored staying at El Careyes for too long. My husband is not one to hang out at the pool/beach all day and prefers exploring, which is why I thought he'd like PV. But going to two resorts would also cost for a car rental since El Careyes is 2.5 hours from PV.

We've never really been anywhere in Mexico other than Cancun. What would you do?

Please visit www.tripadvisor.com careyes forum for our recent reviews of El Careyes which may close on 1 March after Starwood leaves on 28 Feb. '07.

I would do the split trip ... often you'll find you prefer one spot to the other and the best way to discover this is to try different places, so the 3/4 split looks appealing to me.

We are also looking into using points for a Mexico stay in Jan/Feb, but I have not seen the special you're talking about. Is it still running? Where do I find it? Thanks!

Well I'd take the 1st one because I love staying right in Puerto Vallarta.
