Trip from Buenos Aires to Colonia worth it?

Travelling to Buenos Aires in the end of May, wanting to know if the day trip from Buenos Aires to Colonia is worth it. We plan to take the ferry in the morning and return in the evening. Any thoughts ?

thanks
Cobus

We just took the day trip in March. I was eager to see Uruguay, but coming from San Isidro in BA, I found Colonia was very similar.

I guess to determine if it is worth it, would depend on what your goals are.

FEMI, as I recall you booked your travel with WOW!Argentina. How about a trip report? I am anxious to hear about your visit.

We were at Colonia in December and really enjoyed our day there. Argentina doesn't have much colonial architecture left, so it was nice to be able to go and see some. We had a nice lunch; they specialize in fried calamari. And the church and museums were interesting. There's a certain amount of red tape and standing in line going in and out of Uruguay but we thought the day was well worth it. In December there was a time change between BA and Colonia; a little confusing.

We were in Argentina last May and took the ferry to Colonia and spent the night in a charming inn. We did not feel rushed that way and while it is a small town, it was nice to get a real feel for it at a relaxed pace.
Have fun

It was "worth it" to us. In fact, we very much enjoyed our day trip. I have a long file on our trip to BsAs last November. If you would like it e-mail me.

I go to Colonia a couple of times a year for visa renewal, but enjoy myself every time. It's a quiet, historical town, with little museums, and art shops (a bit pricey, clearly aimed at tourists), and some very good seafood restaurants.

By the way, there's, as far as I know, always a time change between Argentina and Uruguay, they're in different time zones. I won't swear to that, but I think I've always had to change my watch by an hour there.

Cobus, I took advantage of Giovanna's offer to share her trip report. I can definitely say it was a good thing. She writes well and is very comprehensive in her reporting. She helped me a great deal with my planning.
