TMM Yacht ChartersCayo Espanto/Victoria House

I will be Honeymoon-ing in Belize in about two weeks. We are starting out on a 35 foot sailboat for four days, then going to Cayo Espanto for a few nights and finishing up on Ambergris Caye at Vicoria House.
Is anyone familar with TMM YachtCharters? Cayo Espanto? Victoria House? Just looking for some feedback so I know what to expect.
One more question, does anyone know if the prices quoted in the Fodor's Travel are in US or Belizian dollars? Specifically curious with regard to the prices for the scuba diving trips.

Hi--
I apologize b/c this is not a feedback reply. Your itinerary sounds fabulous and I was wondering if you would share some info with me. My fiance and I are planning our honeymoon in Belize and are thinking of House Victoria--I've heard great things. Would you mind telling me about the TMM Charter? How long is your trip? Any info you can share will be greatly appreciated. Congratulations and have a great honeymoon!

TMM offer sailing charters with crews or without. The Moorings does the same out of Placencia further south. Victoria House is one of the finer inns in the country, very well run and a few miles south of town and away from human traffic. CE is a small private island. probably less than 2 miles from VH and the island VH is on. Private villas with your own butler and small dunk pool who should be loooking after your every need and meals that should reflect it's image. All wonderful places and sailing should be fabulous as well. I was in area where you'll be sailing yesterday and saw 4 dolphins without even looking for them. Only drawback to this itinerary, is that you're only seeing a small area of Belize. But a lovely area none the less.

We went to Cayo Espanto for 5 nights in April. It was fabulous. Obviously very private & remote. Tiny island, constant service. In fact if you want more privacy you have to be very adamant about that with your housemen or they will be at your elbow. Some people like that but we wanted a little more "alone" time. We would return from a Hobie cat sail & they would be waiting on the beach with cold towels & beer & fresh towels whenever we returned! That was great. Fabulous food, make to your request on your private candle lite deck served by syncronized waiters. It was something. Take advantage of all they have to offer. Snorkeling/swimming is not optimine because it is too shallow right at the villas. We stayed in Casa Olita which was perfect. Personally I would have saved Cayo Espanto for last but you'll have a wonderful time. We spent 5 days first at Portofinos, North Ambergris before going to Cayo. If you have any questions, I'll be glad to answer.

Since I updated the Belize section of the current edition of Fodor's Belize & Guatemala guide and am co-author and updater on the upcoming 4th edition, I can tell you:

* In the current (3rd) edition, rates are in U.S. dollars unless specifically stated otherwise

* In the upcoming (4th) edition which should be out soon, rates are in Belize dollars unless specifically stated otherwise

TMM is a reputable, well-established yacht charter company. It and The Moorings in Placencia are the two main charter operations in Belize.

Cayo Espanto (I've visited it but not stayed there) is a great place if money is no object. Excellent food, lots of service, spacious villas with splashpools. But the prices make you think you're on St. Barths, not in Belize.

Victoria House is a pleasant, casual-but-nice resort with a variety of accommodations from fairly simple rooms to deluxe digs in the owners' villas (I'd stay in the latter if I could afford it). Beautiful "zero effect" pool and very good food.

--Lan Sluder
