Tipping a driver

We will have a driver for our trip arranged through Gaialink Tours. Can anyone provide tipping guidelines per day, per person? Also, any recent experiences with Gailink? All of my conversations with Ralph, the owner, have been very pleasant. Thank you.

I never heard of Gaialink, but will this driver be with you 24/7? Is he also serving as a guide?

Hi all,

Ralph at Gaialink arranged our family trip the summer of 2004. It was the best family trip that we have ever taken. Ralph has also arranged a trip for my husband and me this coming April to the Osa Peninsula. You will not be disappointed with their service. Gaialink has two offices, New York and in Costa Rica. We did tip our drivers, but how much...I don't remember (Geez...they were nice people, I hope we were generous). The drivers were not with us 24/7, but rather picked us up and transfered us from location to location. When we had local tours, the local tour operators provided the transportation. Everything worked out very smoothly. Allison

WE had a driver that transferred us (family of 4) from SJ to Arenal, Arenal to MA and MA back to San Jose. We tipped around $20 to $25 each time. That was recommended to us by the person that arranged our trip. I think our driver was very appreciative.

Used Gaialink May 05' and was a great experience. Had a driver for 3 legs of our trip, SJ to MA, Then MA to Arenal and finally Arenal to Peace Lodge. Had two different drivers, both excellent. I think it was Luis that was the really entertaining driver who did the MA to Arenal leg. I tipped about $ 20-25 depending on how much each leg cost. You'll be in good hands with Gaialink. Ralph uses specific drivers because they are very reliable. You'll also be introduced to the San Jose office manager when you arrive and you are given her cell # if you need it. She also calls you during your trip to check on you to see if everything is going Ok. Would definetly use again. If you do some checking around you'll find they have an excellent reputation
