suggestions for short side trips from Granada?

Will be leaving for a week of Spanish school in Granada later this spring. Any advice on short side trips in the afternoons from Granada? My first full day there (sunday) I was thinking about going to Ometepe-looks like there is a fast boat over there but don't know if that is the best use of a day. Also looking at Volcanoes around Masaya or something called a "proyecto rural la Granadilla"? Not quite sure what that involves. Any suggstions? thanks

Ometepe is kind of a long day trip from Granada. It would take an hour each way just to get to San Jorge, the port near Rivas from where the boats depart.

My favorite day trip from Granada is the Mombacho volcano, just outside of town. It's a dormant volcano whose crater is now a cloudforest.

Jeff-thanks for the info.

1. Are there plenty of agencias in Granada, Nicaragua to book these day trips?
2. Is the trip to Mombacho usually with a group in a van or is it done in another manner?

3. Would it typically take a full day?
Since I have one full day available I want to make the best use of that day.
4. What do you think about any kind of a tour around the Isletas in the big lake?

5. Are you aware of any opportunities for horseback riding in the area outside of Granada? thanks

Try ORO Travel. They are right there in Granada and will set up whatever you need. I was there in February for 3 weeks and they did a terrific job.
