Safety in Cancun
Hello,
I haven't travelled to Cancun in a couple of years but am planning a short trip soon. We are planning to stay in the Hotel Zone which I assume is still relatively safe with all the usual precautions one would take anywhere but given the heightened safety warnings, particularly to American travelers, I was wondering if anyone had any experiences to report one way or another. Thanks in advance for your time!!!

When you read or hear "hightened warnings" you really need to pay attention to WHERE the troubles are going on. I would say don't go to Monterrey, Juarez or the border towns, for example. But I personally think it's fine to go to Cabo, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta and stay on the tourist track and mind your own business. The violence is about drug cartels, money, politics, and unless you are involved in those, you should be OK.
