Safety in Cancun

Hello,
I haven't travelled to Cancun in a couple of years but am planning a short trip soon. We are planning to stay in the Hotel Zone which I assume is still relatively safe with all the usual precautions one would take anywhere but given the heightened safety warnings, particularly to American travelers, I was wondering if anyone had any experiences to report one way or another. Thanks in advance for your time!!! :)

The hotel zone in Cancun is fine. There have been no negative reports of anything going on there with tourists. Nada.

There are multiple threads on this topic - would suggest you read those.

Concur with Suze - really, anywhere is safe in the daytime, and Hotel Zone is safe 24/7.

When you read or hear "hightened warnings" you really need to pay attention to WHERE the troubles are going on. I would say don't go to Monterrey, Juarez or the border towns, for example. But I personally think it's fine to go to Cabo, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta and stay on the tourist track and mind your own business. The violence is about drug cartels, money, politics, and unless you are involved in those, you should be OK.
