Ralph, some of my other favorites are: Don Camilio in Copacabana, Saytricon in Ipanema, of course the famous chuascarias Mariu's and Porcao both in Ipanema, Marius has a location in Leme which I prefer. Then there are the cafes along ave Atlantica in Copacabana and Garota de Ipanema in Ipanema where the famous song was written.

Ralph, one more thing I forgot since your staying at the Sheraton, in front of the pool at the Sheraton is an outdoor cafe that serves pizza and other things. When Im in Rio I always stop at the Sheraton during the day at least once or twice, take a swim at the pool and then sit down in this cafe and order a pizza margherita and a chopp. Its to die for, Ill be there next week myself and I can't wait to get one of those pizzas. Also pizza at any cafe on copacabana is good to but the Sheraton's is the best, order a brotinho which is small like a bar pie in NY. Another appetizer in a cafe you can order is bolinho baccalu, little cod fish cakes you dip in hot/garlic type sauce, with a beer its to die for.

Boa viajim
One of my favorite restaurants in Rio is Mediterraneo on the corner of Prudente de Morais and Rua Paul Redfern in Ipanema. The restaurant's specialty is grilled fresh fish and homemade pasta. Sit upstairs on the outdoor porch overlooking this lovely corner of Ipanema.
One of the very best restaurants in Rio is Antiquarius -- which is pricey for Rio, but well worth it. This is one of the best Portuguese Restaurant's I have ever been. Even better than many I have tried in Lisbon. Enjoy all the 'bacalhau" dishes. This restaurant is located in Leblon.
Jill
