We ate at a restaurant near Chichen Itza that was on the left hand side of the road as you were driving away. Sorry, I cannot remember the name. It had a dining area across the front patio as well. The food was good, just don't sit outside--the noise and smell from passing cars and trucks was a bit much. Pick carefully, many of the restaurants are buffets that cater to the huge bus crowds. We asked several times for suggestions from locals. Even though we are fluent in Spanish and asked about non-buffets, we kept being directed to them.
Yucatan Today's guides for Merida are great. If you already haven't, spend some time reviewing them.
