rafting in costa rica
Hi there -
I'm going to be in costa rica the last week of April. Is there a difference in rafting between San Jose Area, Arenal, or Manuel Antonio? Will options be limited because its the end of the dry season?

Some of the rivers around Manuel Antonio are too low to run by the end of the dry season.
The best outfit in Costa Rica is
www.riostropicales.com
And you can get a good idea of what's available on their homepage.

This is done only from December through April. The best option for rafting.

This is a fast view of the beauty and challenge that this section offers. A real different kind of rafting. Runs December through May.

This video is very comprehensive. It shows all the people at the waterfall listening to the safety talk, then the rescue practice we do before the BIG rapids start. The guy going crazy on the kayak is there for safety and you’ll see him throughout the video. It shows some of the rapids, in order of appearance, Stairway, Dragon’s Mouth, Bombaclath (quality river surfing), Chorro (from upstream) and Noname. If anybody says there is no good rafting during the summer, they have not paddle Chorro.

This is a shorter video because it is a 1 raft trip with the safety kayaker. Showing rapids like Stairway, Dragon’s Mouth, Dragon’s Tail, Bombaclath, Chorro. Sorry, no more cliff jumping. And last but not least the surf hole. This is the best half day rafting trip Costa Rica.

We just got back from our (first and fabulous) Costa Rica trip and did the 1-day trip on the Pacuare out of San Jose (stayed at Hotel Don Carlos) with Rio Tropicales. They did a great job and we thouroughly enjoyed the day. We've done rafting before (Colorado and Tennessee) and felt they offered the same quality rafting trip - safe, exciting, and fun. Our guide told us they can raft the river almost all year with few exceptions - when the river gets too high/fast they may need to stop trips! Our trip was classified as a 3/4 but we thought there was more "3" than "4". However, there was still plenty action and after three hours of paddling we were ready for lunch and relaxation. Have fun!
