Pucon

Does anyone have a recommendation of a good hotel in Pucon? I've read positive things about the Villarica Park Lake Hotel and negative comments about the Hotel Antumalal. Any other recommendations of nice hotels in Pucon?

There were so many lovely hotels in Pucon...we were not at all happy with the Antumalal. It is over rated and over the hill!

Personally, I find the places in Pucon itself kind of overpriced. If you have your own vehicle, I'd suggest basing yourself in Villarrica, just 24 km from Pucon, and staying at the Hosteria de la Colina. It's one of my favorite places in Chile. The owners, Bev and Glen, are originally from Montana, but they are a wealth of information about the region. It's just a very comfortable, hospitable place to stay.

And even if you don't have your own car, there's very frequent bus service between the two towns. (The Villarrica Park Lake Hotel is about halfway between Pucon and Villarrica. It is quite lovely.)

Oh, and at the Hosteria de la Colina, they make their own ice cream.

Why focus on hotels when there are so many good cabanas right in downtown Pucon? We stayed at Cabanas Mapulay at US$48/night in March 2005 within a few blocks of everything you'd want to go to. We had full cooking facilities and daily maid service. We noticed that there are many cabanas downtown that are not on the web.
