Proposing in Costa Rica
Hi all,
I am planning on "popping the question" this summer and am thinking about doing it in Costa Rica. I have a few questions for the experts out there:
1) I'm finding a ticket to San Jose from Detroit for about $570 round-trip. Is this a good deal? The dates are July 3rd to July 9th.
2) We will only be there for really about 6 days (can't count the day we're leaving) and I think I'd really like to stay at Peace Lodge. However, I'd like to still go to Manuel Antonio for at least a night or two. How far are these places from each other and how much would transportation be to go from one to the other?
Also, I am open to any other suggestions people out there have about places to propose or visit. Thanks!

Oh how romantic! How about on the beach during one of the CR's magical sunsets. When we were at Playa Grande, people turned out on the beach every night to watch the sunset and everyone would be so quiet. It still makes my heart pound.
We did a bit better on airfare from Boston in March, but I'm not an expert, so hopefully someone else will add to the discussion.
I've never been to MA, so don't know where to catch the best sunsets. Probably the distance by car is about 5 or 6 hours. You can fly down via Sanse or Nature Air. Good luck with your plans!!!

My husband proposed to me in Costa Rica 4.5 years ago. We were there for 2 weeks though. He waited until we went down to the Osa Peninsula where we rented an oceanfront house called Casa Bambu. It was a complete surprise and very romantic. I was a bit nervous wearing an expensive piece of jewelry while hiking through the muddy jungle. My husband (finance at the time) assured me it was insured and not to worry. So my tip is to make sure you get insurance before the trip.
We were then married in Florence Italy a year later. Another very romantic destination, if you're looking for somewhere else to propose.
Best of luck!

we stayed in Jaco Beach for a reasonable price. Check out the Best Western, not your typical Best Western. I know you said in another thread that you had a budget of $2,500 for both of you including air. That is going to be tough. Good Luck

There is a VERY romantic, old Gothic style hotel about 20 minutes by car from Jaco Beach. It is very popular at sunset. I can't remember the name of it. Anyways you can sit on the patio or in the outside amplatheater (sp) and sip drinks while they broad cast the most amazing music while the sun sets and the local fishing boats come in from a far. My boyfriend and I remeber saying that it was as close to Heaven as one can get. If anyone knows the hotel I am talking about, please respond. It is on top of a hill

I found the hotel that I was speaking of in my last response. It is called the Villa Caletas. It is rated the most romantic hotel in all of Costa Rica. It is soactacular. If you cannot afford to stay there gp for sunset time and have drinks and appitzers. You will not be disapointed!

deeps - with only 6 days, you will probably want to only visit two areas.
Peace Lodge, is yes a wonderful place, but is a bit expensive, this could be your splurge!
Maybe spend the remainder in Manuel Antonio, where you will have more options of lesser expensive lodgings. And lots of choices of activities.
Also do not forget this is the Green Season so prices for your lodgings will be much less.
We were married on the beach at Manuel Antonio. There was a rainbow in the sky that framed us. Pretty cool, the ocean in front, the beach around, a rainbow overhead and monkeys playing everywhere.
There is a bus service called Interbus that offers very affordable transportation. Their website is http://www.costaricapass.com
Airfare via Sansa or Nature Air is also very reasonable.
As for International airfare - we typically pay around $450 - $480 in Feb from Memphis to CR flying Delta.
Good Luck!!!

Check Travelocity for your airfare. I just booked two tickets out of Flint for only $418 each, and right now they are showing Detroit for only $406. There might be restrictions on days, but even so you should be able to get a flight for under $500 from Detroit easily. Hope this helps, and enjoy!

Why not take a day or overnight trip to the volcano Aerenol - you can stay at the Research Lodge at the base and get a local guide to hike you up the Volcano at night. Aerenol errupts every two hours - you could propose during this unbelievable and truly unforgettable event while the night sky is lit up with real fireworks! What a story - I did it!!

Try Luxury Link. They have great romance packages for Costa Rica properties, including Via Caletas, Punta Islita, La Mansion.
This one looks like a great deal for 5 nights, breakfast included:
