Poas Volcano Tour?

Hi, guys - we're going back to the Peace Lodge and will not have a car. I was curious who everyone used to take the tour out to Poas - is there a specific company you would recommend? Is there a tour that's Poas only without combining with the coffee tour? Thanks for any help you can provide. I'm curious if there's an a.m. tour to see Poas and then we can just return and enjoy the Peace Lodge grounds.

Topping – I would really like to know what the answer is, since we’ll be at the Peace Lodge without a car next Feb.
Can we get a taxi for a Poas only tour? Any idea of the cost? Thanks

If you guys can get a taxi, it shouldn't cost a lot as it isn't very far over to Poas, maybe 20 min. or so. Guessing about $40 round trip tops. Hopefully less. The problem is getting a taxi in that rather remote area (at least not near towns of any size).

We hired a guy in SJO for a tour to Poas. When we got there it was complete cloud cover. I don't know how one can plan for that.

shillmac, a taxi is a good idea if we can get one. I e-mailed the Peace Lodge, so I'll let you guys know what I find out.

daleb, I'm hoping since the Peace Lodge is so close to Poas we may have better luck if we get there early, but I know it's just the luck of the draw. I hope we get a peek.

I e-mailed the Peace Lodge, and they said that they do not offer any tour other than the one paired with the coffee tour, but they said I could get a taxi and round trip fare would probably only be about $25 - seems like a great alternative since the other tour is $65 per person.

yes, you should go solo. Peace lodge and the volcano are practically next to each other. Get a cab from the town of vara blanca which is where la paz is.

pls plan to be at the gate of the volcano by 8am. if anything, it will allow you to have more opportunities to see it clear. by that hour, you will have a better change to see it in its full beauty.

since most tourss leave for SJO, tour groups arrive at the volcano at about 10 am or so and miss the early morning clearing.

with luck, you will be back in La Paz by 10:30 am, with lots of stories to tell.

We took the bus tour, and regretted it. The bus made many stops to pick up people, then stopped for lunch on the way back. It was a dismal experience. Take a taxi.

Thanks, everyone - a taxi it is. I just love the PL grounds so much and want to make sure we have time to enjoy them.
