playa or DR?

Hey guys,

I am reeeaaaly having a hard time with deciding on these 2, Playa, which we visit often, and Dominican Rep. punta cana, I keep hearing stories on DR, food, water being so bad, etc.. but wow the deals are great and it looks beautiful. Can you help?
thanks

I think it all comes down to what you enjoy on your vacation.
If you like funky bars, neat places to shop and eat, and day trips to ruins, you should stick with Playa.
If you want cheap flights, AI hotels, and nice beaches, PC in the DR would be a good choice.
May I suggest a compromise and say you should look into Isla Mujeres - the island across from Cancun - and Akumal further on down the Caribbean coast of Mexico?
You already know you like the area, and these two places give you what you like about PDC without the commercialism and some-would-say tacky AI experience of the DR AI scene.

Thanks Diana!
I really think it looks beautiful in the DR, but we do enjoy Playa, and Akamul is a good idea! I don't know, keep reading so many negatives about DR, it turns you real quick. I live in Colorado, so it is not cheap to visit either place, so I want to make it a good time. Thanks for the wake up call!

We went to PDC right after 9/11 and I was never so disappointed.. I paid more $$ off season that I have in season in the D.R. There are many great areas like Punta Cana and La Romana with gorgeous beaches and resorts..check out

Will simply say that the only time I have ever been sick was when I visited the DR. I've been to Mexico many times and have never had a problem.

Stayed in Punta Cana 4 years ago with a group of more than 70 travellers. Beautiful AI hotel. Lovely beach and property. Unfortunately, more than half of us got sick. We all drank bottled water, so not really sure why this occured. Am hoping conditions have improved since our trip...would love to try again...just a little hesitant. Stayed at Riu Palace 2 years ago! Super all around. Only disappointment was the cold pool water...but when you have an entire ocean, who needs the pool!!!! Stayed in Akumal last year...very nice, but preferred Playa. Have a great trip!!
