Playa Flamingo vs Playa Conchal
Hi folks,
We want to spend 3 days in the Arenal and then hop on over to one of the beaches - which one? Flamingo or Conchal?
Also is Peninsula Osa a must? We're not doing Manual Antonio since we will have only 8 days in November.
any help appreciated!

The Osa Peninsula is a place apart--very special. It deserves its own week!
As for Arenal and a beach location, you COULD pretty easily do Arenal and Manuel Antonio in 8 days. Both are about 3 hours from SJO, with a 5 hour or little longer drive in between the two. Pretty simple and the choice many people make. Both outstanding.
As for Flamingo or Conchal, these are the differences: Situated on Playa Conchal is the megaresort and condominium property of Paradisus Playa Conchal. It is a lovely shell beach (hence the name Conchal), but it has to be accessed either as a guest of the hotel (very expensive, but not a bad choice) or by walking about 5 minutes from Playa Brasilito (Hotel Brasilito as basic, but fun choice if you can get one of the oceanfront rooms). There are a few very excellent restaurants in Brasilito, my favorite, Camaron Dorado--just the most romantic and pleasant way to wind down a day-- on the beach with great service! Go in time for sunset, about 5:30.
As for Playa Flamingo, we think it is one of the most beautiful beaches in CR. It is longer than most, making for a great place to walk or run for exercise. People gather each evening for (surely) the most magnificent sunset to be found anywhere. A few years ago, there might be 4-5 people on a Sunday evening. . .a few weeks ago I counted about 60 on the entire beach, but it didn't seem crowded at all. Be careful in the waves and swimming as there are a couple of large rocks that aren't visible--just to the right of center (you'll see where I mean).
We like Flamingo Beach Resort for its close proximity to the beach, just across the road from the pool, which has just been remodeled and is quite nice--huge. The rooms are very decent and this property is a steal for $79 per night, if you can hook up with one of the specials on their website. Mar y Sol and Marie's are good restaurants in this area as well as Stellas. Breakfast is okay at FBR (included), but I'd go elsewhere for dinner, although the club sandwiches I ordered for lunch a couple of days were really good!
Nice thing about this location is that it is only a 30 minute drive to Tamarindo, interesting place to visit for an afternoon or an evening. Also a 30 minute drive through Playa Potrero (dirt road through the country---needs 4 wheel drive, but very doable) to the Playa Hermosa area. A great restaurant in that area is Ginger, closed on Mondays, I believe.
Good luck with your decision--hard to go wrong any way you cut it!
