Playa Del Carmen-Rent a Car?

We will be making our first trip to Playa in Feb. We are staying at Playa Maya in town. Should we rent a car at the airport? Is there parking? Is it difficult to drive in that area? We will be spending most of our time in Playa but would like to visit Akumal, Tulum, etc. Thanks so much.

Playa Maya has a couple of parking spots - 1st come/1st serve. Otherwise parking is on the street. You have to watch out for one-way streets.

You can rent a car only for the days you will need it. I'm sure Playa Maya can help arrange it.

Rent a car, we waited until the last couple of days and rented from the hotel and regretted not doing it sooner, it was the best couple of days. We went exploring all down the coast including Tulum and a few of the other sites. It was definitely worth it.

There is construction on 8th ave which is the road next to Playa Maya. It would be difficult to park there. There is no parking directly next to the hotel as it is next to Alhambra on the beach. We always rent a car (there is an Executive on 10th and 5th)or you can rent at the airport but the car rentals themselves are off site. You will be taken there by the rental company after checking in with them after leaving the luggage area.

Rent the car for only the days you are traveling so you don't have the parking issue. Reserve it ahead while in the states, I saved money doing this. It is very easy traveling from PDC to Tulum, Coba, Chichen Itza, etc. It is interesting to take off on the sandy roads leading to the ocean. you will find some secluded beautiful spots, be adventursome. Have Fun.
