What a surprise to see this post re-surface! It's a nice surprise, however.
I'm glad you enjoyed the photos, kitamaria. You must really be in serious research mode, which is part of the fun, IMO.
Los Chorros falls were beautiful, but definitely off the beaten track a bit. It would be a great place to pack in a lunch and spend a few hours. You can take a dip in the water near the falls and they have some picnic tables available along the river bank. It's a popular place with locals and doesn't draw a lot of tourists (which is part of it's charm!).
Los Chorros is a designated recreational area (sort of like our state parks here in the U.S. but more rustic).
La Paz Waterfall Gardens is very much a tourist place, but well worth a visit. The grounds are lovely and there's lots to see and do there (butterfly house, hummingbird gardens, frog house, snake house, orchid garden, aviary...). The property has five different impressive waterfalls set along a scenic hiking trail. The folks running the place have done an excellent job blending the landscaped garden areas in with the surrounding natural flora. It's really a visual feast for the eyes!
I would definitely recommend La Paz for first time visitors to CR. We liked it so much, we went back on our second trip. Did you see my 2006 Costa Rica photos (I've got 2 CR galleries out there; 2006 and 2007)? I have lots of pics from La Paz, including our room at the Peace Lodge.

Both places are worthy of a visit. It just sort of depends on what you're looking for; off-the-beaten-track or more of a 'polished' (but thoroughly enjoyable) excursion.
