Petropolis, Brazil
We're planning a 10-day trip to Brazil at the end of February. Would like to spend an overnight in Petropolis. Can anyone suggest a good place to stay? Recommendations about places to eat - or other comments about the area - would also be appreciated. Thanks.

Caroler, there's a beautiful pousada that I like to stay when I go to Petropolis called Locanda della Mimosa. The owner is a well known Brazilian chef (actually he's Italian). There's only 5 rooms, a nice swimming pool, a tea room and the best restaurant in Petropolis (the restaurant is also called Locanda della Mimosa). The owner uses to say that he runs a restaurant with a hotel attached and not the other way around. Check out www.locanda.com.br (all info in Portuguese but at least you can see the pictures). For one night this would be the best place to stay. Book it now!
Have a great trip! Nino

Nino, Thank you for the suggestion! It sounds great. Unfortunately, the Locanda website won't let me go beyond the home page so I'm trying to find another way to get contact and rate/availability information. If you by any chance have their e-mail information, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Caroler, I tried the website again and it worked for me. It will open a second window and you'll see ENTER on the bottom right side. Anyway, their e-mail address is [email protected] and their phone number is 55 24 2233-5405. Please report when you get back! Nino

Hi Nino,
Thanks for asking and thank you again for your suggestion.
Unfortunately, our Brazilian friend who we were supposed to meet in Petropolis couldn't make it at the last minute. So.... we went for the day only. The bus ride to Petropolis was beautiful and we walked all around the city, but we didn't have a chance to get out into the countryside to enjoy the true beauty of the area.
As our whole trip in Brazil was a wonderful experience, we'd love to go back (hopefully next year). If we do, we would rent a car and spend several days in the Petropolis area. The pousada you recommended looks terrific!
