Totally agree. There is so much to see in Costa Rica, it would be a shame to stay those many nights in an all inclusive resort. But that is me, you may very well enjoy it.
How about - what are your interests? Are you looking for the AI vacation with a few long day trips with a little golf added in?
Or do you want to see beautifuly lush vegetation and abundant wildlife? High adventure? Funky little beach towns? Hiking? Rainforest? Seclusion? Small intimate places? Quaint little towns? Well I could go on and on!

Again this depends on what your interest are. But no, I would find it hard to believe that anyone looking for nature and adventure can get bored at Arenal in 3 nights. Arenal has a vast amount of activities.
Most people I believe will agree that Arenal for 3 nights and Peace Lodge for 2 would be a good amount of time at each.
We never stay more than 5 nights in any one location. More like 3 or 4.

As always, Donna's and Tully's advice is right on! And Lisa, like me, thinks Paradisus Playa Conchal is a great place to relax and do nothing for a few days. But yes, 9-10 days is too long there. For us, it's a great place to spend 3-4 days.
Same as Donna, we rarely stay anywhere longer than that either. Your plan to spend a couple of nights at Peace Lodge (there is so much to see and do in the central valley, you could stretch it to 3 and it wouldn't be too much) is much better.
Will you still have 7-8 nights at PPC? I would do as Tully suggests and spend part of that time in Manuel Antonio. . . .4 nights each, for example--or even 4 and 3. Manuel Antonio has such lovely hotels and so many choices for activities!
I don't mean to confuse--it's just that, as much as we enjoy PPC, I can't imagine so many days of All-Inclusive in a country that has SO much to offer.
The very first time we went, it was on a package deal--one week at an all-inclusive. We had a great time, took 2 daytrips, and just played and read and enjoyed our older (20ish) children, who were busy making friends with the entertainment staff. That was one of the best vacations we ever had; but now that I know the country so much better, no way could I stay put in an AI for so long!
