Paging Jeff_Costa_Rica

Hello Jeff. A while back you gave me some specific, very good info about going to Antigua from the port stop. Well I have another question now. How long is the ride fro, Puerto Corinto to Leon by car and how are the roads? Bumpy is OK but too winding and twisty and my wife gets pretty sick. Do you have any idea? Also could we just hop a cab at the pier and go? Gracias amigo. Larry

Hi Larry. That part of Nicaragua is very flat, so no winding, twisting roads. It should take no more than an hour to get to Leon, and I'd be surprised if it would take even that long.

You know, I can't specifically answer the taxi question, but where cruise ships dock, there are usually taxis waiting.

Oh, that's coming up soon, Larry. Exciting!

Be warned, though: February, March and April are *very* warm there. Be sure and use sunscreen and carry a bottle of water.

I had hand surgery on Janaury 9th for Dupuytren's Contracture.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dupuytren%27s_contracture

I just got the cast off a week ago and now it is about 6 weeks of physio everyday.

I am typing this with one finger of the left hand !!!

Hope all is alright with you.

Send me an updated pictures of the grandchildren!!

Take care

Thanks again Jeff. I hadn't thought of that. I see in USA Today that Managua is 90F. Actually I have been in touch with a driver who is offering a private van with AC so I think we shall do that. He was recommended on this board by another poster. Cheers, Larry

Larry, you'll appreciate the AC in the van. It'll be mid-90s during the afternoon and there is almost zero shade. Remember: water, sunscreen, and a hat with a brim too. Leon has a lot of interesting colonial architecture, so it's a worthwhile shore excursion.

Percy, that sounds painful. Do take care of yourself. I don't think anyone here will care if you type in all lower-case letters. Don't bother with the SHIFT key if you can use only one finger.

I can't believe you didn't tell me! Putin has taught you his methods of secrecy! Glad you are recovering and not whining too much. Where are you off to next?

Jeff,

You're not the same Jeff with CR Surf, are you?

If so, you gave me great advice on our trip last year and the rental car.

Are you one and the same?

Thanks shillmac and jeff...

the finger just throbs all day but that is to be expected with all the many sensitive nerve fibers that hand has.

nothing to whine about as I knew all about the complications and the physio involved.

Hi Percy: Yes we are back. I sent a review to cruisecritic and am waiting for it to be published so I can C/P it here. I should have put it here first. All is well and I haven't forgotton about Leon. In that part of the world its much harder to get a private tour guide than the Caribbean which has decades of infrastructure in place. Not so in Guatemala and Nicaragua. We found a fascinating private guide in Nicaragua and I'll post more asap but today I'm really busy but I will get to it asap. BTW that Tilley hat works in that climate. It kept me pretty cool. Later amigo. Gotta run now. Larry
