OTC in Mexico
I am traveling to Mexico this summer with my family. I suffer from mild backpane which is ussually treatable with some Ibuprophen, occaionally though, It will flare up. If such an event does occur I was wondering if it is possible to obtain certain meds OTC there which are prescription here i.e. Tramadol or Codiene. I dont intened on bringing any back of course.
P.S. I would bring my prescription from home, but I am a little worried about bringing them through customs and such.
Any replies would be helpful.

Legally you must have a prescription from a Mexican MD to buy prescription drugs in Mexico. A US prescription is useless. Also do not try to bring any back from Mexico unless you like jail. Play it straight. At any one time about 1,500 Gringos are in Mexican prisons on drug charges. They make San Quentin look like Club Med in comparison. It's easy to see a MD in most Mexico cities. I know one in Zihuatanejo that will write a prescription for 30 pesos. Now I am a diabetic & a triple by pass survivor. I take lots of Meds to Mexico but I always take them in their original bottles & bring a copy of my prescriptions. I have never been question on these however non are narcotics or for pain.
