Osa Wildlife Sanctuary

I am having a little trouble figuring out where the Osa Animal Santuary is located. I can not tell from the website. Is it across the golf from Puerto Jimemez? What is the closest town?

Thank you!!

We stayed at Bosque del Cabo and took a car into Puerto Jimenez, then took a boat across the Golfo Dulce for maybe about 30 minutes to get there. The beach there is beautiful - it looks like a gorgeous tropical island when your little boat comes in. If you come in on the water, wear Keen's or other water shoes; the boats drop you off in the water close to shore. We loved the sancutary - hope you get a chance to go!

Thank you, Volcanogirl. It does sound wonderful; we really want to go.

I am hoping to find out where it is located because we are thinking of visiting the other side of the gulf before we go to PJ and BdC.

Anyone know?

Gem when I was at Playa Nicuesa, it took us a very short time to get there by boat, maybe 10 minutes. I think on PN's website they gave a good location map so that'll give you a better idea where it is. It's in the Piedras Blancas NP, so I'd say the closest town would be Golfito and from there you could take a boat.

Thank you, Tully! Our plans are all over right now; I am not sure where we are going. I really want to back to BdC and my husband wants a week at the beach. Our favorite place in Tulum is booked. I have been thinking about Belize or maybe the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica.

What have you been up to?

gem you could always split between BdC and the Puerto Viejo area, or up in the NW. Don't you just hear the howlers calling you back

I'm off to Nicaragua in about 50 days (hurry!) and then back to CR in May (and BdC of course!)

gem - Not sure if you read glover's post, so in case you want to touch bases regarding PV or other itinerary stuff you can e-mail me using my screen name @ juno.com.

Tenatively we're 3/n PV, 3/n Arenal, 3/n MA, 5/n Osa with 1 night on each end somewhere...

Good luck planning! It's tough!

Thank you so much for your help. My husband has said that he would really like a week on the beach. He has not been to Tulum, which one of my favorite places; so I am looking into that. It is quite a bit less expensive, too. It might be good for us to go to BdC every other year (although he finds out about a really cool job today- think good thoughts for us)!

Tully, where will you be going in Nicaragua? We have always wanted to go there. When we were in Malpias, the owner of Flor Blanca told us so many great things about it that I was almost on a plane from there.

Hipchick, your trip sounds great! I will send you an email to get all the details. How are you traveling from place to place?

So nice to hear from you both!

Thank You,
Gem

Hi Gem -- I'm with you...will need to stagger BDC trips in the future. Can't even really afford it now, but taking advantage of the last year daughter is still at child rates. If we knew each other better, we could certainly talk about sharing the 2 bedroom casa at BDC, plenty of space, separate bathrooms, and that would save a little $. We will be taking Interbus for transportation. I would be interested in a car, but not with just me and daughter. Too chicken in case of breakdown or getting lost.

I'll cross my fingers for your hubby to get his new cool job!

Oh, Hip Chick! I did not think of the rate increase. Thank you for pointing that out! Ok, I have to rethink everything, again...

It would be fun to share the house. It can be hard to travel with another family but maybe if we see you at BdC we could see if we could mesh our famlies.

Hi Gem -- Sorry -- I didn't mean to sway you with the kid rate thing! I just know for me, it's one reason I'm pushing to go back so soon, because BDC is one of the only places to have such a generous offer for ages through 11. Many other places require either 2 paying parents, or the cut-off is a much younger age. Being a single mom, that's a bigger ouch to the pocketbook after next year!

gem I'm going to Granada and then to Morgan's Rock, with last night in Managua. It will be interesting I'm sure, hopefully in a good way

You know, from a single travelers perspective, BdC is really the best deal around. Before I first went I was looking at others in the area and places like Lapa Rios, La Paloma really upcharged whereas at BdC you get a pretty decent break I think.

HipChick,
It is ok to sway me. I had forgotten about the 11 year cut off. We are still trying to decide what to do. Either Tulum or BdC. Tulum is much easier and affordable. For this year that may be better for us. We will be selling our condo and moving (hopefully) right before Spring Break; so money and energy may be low. Now, we are still waiting to hear back about the job.

Tully, your trip sounds terrific. Have you visited Nicaragua before?
