Never been to Huatulco

We usually go to the Mayan Riviera and have decided to try the "other side" for a change.

How does the water compare to the water at Playa del Carmen? We like the fact that there is not a strong undertow in the Caribbean.

Any suggestions for good day tours, special shops or favourite restaurants?

That makes it sound even more appealing.

Water on the Pacific side is not the crystal-blue as on the Caribe side. Good snorkeling though--most bays are fairly protected.

I have only been there once. It was in August a few years ago. The water was rough and murky, you could not go out very far because of the size of the waves. Although it wasn't like the Caribbean, we had a good time. The only people there were Mexican tourists, we stayed at a nice hotel and were four of only a few there. Beautiful views and scenery. It was quite enjoyable but very different from the Caribbean.
