Hello Everyone!


I am so glad I found you folks... anyways.

I have been spending countless hours researching the past few weeks trying to settle on a honeymoon destination.

I originally wanted to go to the Riviera Maya but I started looking elsewhere because I was afraid of running into Spring Breakers, (looking at a 5-7 night stay anywhere from March 24th - April 15th). Is this a legitimate worry?

In my internet travels I came across a cute little villa www.moondancevillas.com in Negril. But, my wife to be is a little worried about safety in Jamaica, and to be honest it isn't super cheap at $700 a night + food and activities.

So here are my questions :

1. Anyone know of a place like the Moon Dance in Riviera Maya? I am attracted to this place because I feel it will be a little more secluded than a traditional AI.

2. Do I have to avoid places like Cancun, Jamiaca, Cabo etc during this time of year??? If so, where should I go?

Part of the attraction to the moondance was that it was kind of like a miny AI. None of the small homes/casitas/villas in mexico seem to be as such. I am starting to think that our first trip should be to a resort. I was just kind of hoping for a private pool and sitting on a crowded beach.

Now the easy answer would be: why don't you just go to jamaica??? Well I have decided that the $700 a night + food, + flight + activities would turn this into close to a 10k vacation and I don't want to spend that much $$$.

Anyone have any other suggestions! Thanks!

correction: i was hoping for a private pool and sitting on a NOT SO crowded beach!

and one more thing.. sorry. Anyone have any comment on spring breakers during that time???? thanks!

I just found a website that lists spring breaks for 100s of colleges, http://www.tripsmarter.com/panamacit...sbcalendar.htm. Most are early to mid-March so your timeframe should be good.

In general most spring breakers are in Cancun. We've been to the PDC area that time of year, and there were no spring breakers to be found, mostly adults and families. We also once went to Cancun that time of year, there werw tons of spring breakers, but we were in a more upscale AI, and there were none on our property. They tend a gravitate towards a group of moderate to less-expensive hotels.

A club level in some of the better hotels would be like a mini All inclusive.
I think you'd have no problem with spring breakers at the Ritz Cancun, or the JW Marriott Cancun which have great club levels. The Hilton Cancun, not quite so fancy, has one too.
Other places that are really nice and smaller scale are Ikal del Mar & Maroma.
Oh! There's a new place in Tulum that's al that looks great online. Search for Azul Blue Resort in Tulum...hope that's right...

Mezzanine in Tulum is also looking very nice. I drove past Azul Blue on Sunday. The beach down there is still beautiful.

Unfortunately, I haven't been to any but fell in love when I first read about them in a travel magazine a few years back.

versus, those hotels you suggested do look wonderful, but they're not on the Riviera Maya...

There are a lot of AI's in Riviera Maya that are family oriented and do not allow spring breakers. I do believe that the breakers tend to stay in Cancun because that is where the action is. Most of the AI's are rather quiet when it comes to nightlife. Check out Iberostars, Barcelo, etc. If you want something smaller check out Azul beach resort

I've been reading this...Have you found anything that's your style of budget along the Mayan Riviera.

Sounds like your $700/night in Jamaica wasn't really AI since the food and drink was not included.

There are quite a few places to stay where you can avoid spring breakers. There are smaller hotels, such as the mentioned Mezzanine, where prices are low and quality is high...although you'll have to do w/o a/c, but the fans and sea breeze is sufficient to keep you cool.
