Mexico City-Where to stay?
Trying to decide where to stay in Mexico City. Have narrowed it down to the following...
W- $199
Nikko- $130
Condesa DF- $199
Four Seasons- $185
Can't seem to decide as each seems to have positives and negatives (noise, location, etc).
Any advice would be appreciated.

Not to confuse the issue but my favorite for location, view & friendly staff is The Majestic on the Zocalo. If you request a outside room the view is fabulous. A nice roof top bar/restaurant. Rooms are very well equip with wall safes, Hair dryers, Cable & small balconies. This is a old Colonial hotel so not ultra modern but a real piece of history just steps from the Cathedral, Templo Major & other attractions. A Best Western & their "Best Rate" special price is about $75 a double.

ALL OF THEM ARE GOOD CHOICES, YOU MUST DECIDE WHERE DO YOU WANT TO STAY AND WHAT ARE YOUR DAILY ERRRANDS. NO QUESTION, FOUR SEASONS IS THE BEST BET IN TOWN, BUT IS LOCATED BETWEEN THE ZONA ROSA AND POLANCO AND TEHERE ARE NO MANY PLACES TO GO (RESTAURANTS OR SHOPS). CONDESA IS LOCATED IN A REMODELED BUILDING IN THE NOW POSH-SOHOISH COLONIA CONDESA. THE PLACE IS TRENDY, SURROUNDED BY GOOD RESTAURANTS AND SMALL ONE-OF-A-KIND BOUTIQUES, USUALLY VISITED BY ARTISTS, STARLETTS, WRITERS AND THE LIKE. THE OTHERS ARE LOCATED IN THE UPSCALE POLANCO NEIGHBORHOOD, CLOSE TO MAZARIK, THE MEXICAN CHAMPS ELYSEÈS. MAJESTIC IS A BUDGET, GRINGO ORIENTED PLACE, BY THE ZOCALO, NOT THAT USPCALE BUT NICE, CLEAN AND MODEST, BY THE WAY. MY CHOICE? NIKKO

Thanks for the ideas. I really wanted to stay in the Polanco/ Condesa areas for this trip to try something new & different.
Not to hijack my own thread but, Stewbear, I believe you have spent a lot of time in Michoacan? After Mexico City we are hitting Morelia, Patzcuaro and Zihua. Do you have any great hotel/ restaurant suggestions for Morelia and Patzcuaro? We have a reservation at the Mansion Iturbe but haven't picked a place for Morelia yet.
We will also be spending our anniversary in Patzcuaro. Any ideas?
Thanks.

A popular Middle ground choice is the Best Western Hotel Casino right on the Main Square. Many of my amigos that live in Zihua rate it high stying there on their monthly trips to shop. I stay at a nice but more basic hotel, The Hotel Plaza at about half the cost of the BW at 400 pesos for a double. You Patzcuaro choice is excellent!

PS The Cha Cha Cha gets high restaurant raves in Patzcuaro although I have not eaten there yet but plan tothis year. Really ate no where I found outstanding in fact only half kidding say the beat place in town is the Taco stand on the small Plaza. I must say if you stop at the Wonderful national park in Uruapan be sure & have lunch at The La Trucha just outside the park but overlooking the nicest waterfall inside.
PS No real outstanding spots in Morelia, Had the best Whitefish of my life at a small café just off the Plaza there but the absolute Worst service ever in Mexico!

sb, thanks for the honesty.
We really like Hot Mansion Iturbe - the included breakfasts are amazing and the comp parking another bonus; Rest Cha Cha Cha - maybe the best in all of Michoacan, and Rest Mistongo in Patzcuaro are super.
The Purepecha inspired local food is unique and wonderful.
The nearby artisan towns are worth a visit - our fav is Tocauro for the musuem quality masks.
Buen viaje.

Thanks for all the advice. I hope we will be able to make it to the Natl Park in Uruapan and we will definitely do the villages around Lake Patzcuaro.
Cha Cha Cha is on our list and we will check out Mistongo.
Thanks!
