Wondering if it is reasonable to travel by bus from Mexico City to Panama. Would it be safe? I am a middle-aged woman travelling alone.

That's a lot of land to cover and a lot of diversity. If you have plenty of time it could be an awesome trip. I'd allow 3-4 months which is about 2 weeks per country.
