Tully,

Glad to hear you enjoyed the bungalow at SV as well as the guides and drivers. We felt very well taken care of there.

Seems like our trip to the humid forest was ages ago as I sit here in the cool springtime of Finland.

Thanks all again for reading. It's a lot of what I did, as it's very hard to put emotions into a report, for me.

Melissa, yes, I've come to the point where I'm not sure I could do a trip to CR without a few days at BdC. It's funny, cause sometimes I even question myself. My most recent visit, I woke in the middle of the night (4am) and had to use the restroom. So I grab my flashlight and scan the floor and put on my flip flops. Take 2 steps and see this huge brown/green thing, no idea what it was, it was a cross between a grasshopper, a moth & a bad dream, and I was awake I swear. Anyway, I couldn't just get back into bed with it there, so used the umbrella to swish it out the bathroom door into the shower - this took a while though as I kept making little yelps and was so jumpy thinking it was going to fly at me. So I went back to bed unnerved and skittish. Anyway, the next day was the day I came across what must've been a troop of 40-50 spider monkeys in a tree, with coatis and an agouti at the bottom and I was thinking 'well, this is why I go thru stuff like last night, cause this can't be beat'.

Kay, I agree, I felt well taken care of and it was nice that it wasn't very busy, felt more personalized. Being here in hot, muggy Florida it feels about exactly the same, lol.

Tully, thanks so much for a wonderful report. We're doing Peace Lodge and BdC for our upcoming trip, so the timing was perfect. We loved your pictures too. Glad you had such a great time!

oh jill of course you can! I've made it thru everytime! It's just a little weird when you don't have someone to say "what was that noise" to or "could you please remove that icky thing from the net" to! Really the only time it was noticable was at night after dinner. Before then it always seems like people are out and about, but after dinner it just gets so quiet (well, from humans) and so dark as you know, plus I have a great ability to psych myself out! You'll be just fine

You'll get a kick out of this. I got an e-mail from Jose yesterday--a forward from Nature Air announcing the cancelation (at least for my departure day from BdC back to Pavas) of the 7:00 a.m. flight. He wanted to know if I would rather be on the 9:45 or the 12:15.

I wrote back that I had to connect with Continental at 12:50 and I was REALLY afraid that the 9:45 into Pavas (and then the transfer) would put me in so late I might miss my connection. I'm just too uncomfortable with that 1.5 hour window of time. I told him I was flying to Boston the next a.m. on school $$ and certainly HAD to make my connection back to the states. I suggested that maybe I could fly out on Sansa, would he please check for me?

He called today and told me I had 2 options:

1. Sansa flight (Nature Air willing to credit half of the airfare which is already paid) OR

2. Take the 9:45 Nature Air flight and they would "drop me off" at SJO!

Have you ever heard of that? Well, I guess they are actually going to LAND there and not just "drop me off" as I made it sound.

I asked him his honest opinion about what he thought I should do. He said he'd never recommend Sansa and he thought I'd have no trouble making my flight with Nature Air taking me directly to SJO. So I okayed that option. It will be an interesting morning! I sure hope we don't get in the way of one of the larger planes! Do you suppose NA will actually land at the Sansa terminal or somewhere nearby? Jose told me which hangar the landing would take place at, but I forget the name. Something like Atravas (or similar word). He said they'd drive me the 5 minutes to the main door and help make sure I got my connection. I'm supposed to arrive there at 10:40, so that should be okay for a 12:50 connection, don't you think? As for the critters, I'm just not used to taking care of any "big" problems myself. Guess I'll "grow up" a little!

At first I thought - why is Jose e-mailing you about flights. Then I realized you menat the other Jose, lol.

I think it should be okay. Wonder why he said he won't rec Sansa? I've taken it every time to BdC! But please do this - get Jose to put it in writing or have someone from the office come with you when you depart. The only reason why I'm hesutant is the one and only time I booked NA I was to do very similiar - Quepos to Pavas but it was set where they would "drop me off". First, they were late. Then, they said they wouldn't be able to drop me off but would pay for a taxi to take me to SJO (luckily I had a huge window of time to spare). Then, my heart dropped when I was told they would not be coming at all (could it have anything to do with me being the only passenger?). Anyway, they said Sansa would take care of me instead - except he left and Sansa didn't know anything about it. Of course all ended well and Sansa took me - but that's why I'm so skittish about it. I am sure it will be perfectly fine - but I would definitely make sure they at NA know that paying for a taxi to SJO will not do for you! Never hurts to be extra sure.

If you have any ickies in your cabina, I bet you could go over to Congo & ask Alvin to come over. Yeah, he makes little tiny oopsies on the floor but for the most part he did a very good job as insect eater

Oh my, that IS cause for concern! I will e-mail Jose with a request that he make sure Nature Air understands the importance of our arrangement. I don't know why, but others of the folks at BdC don't like Sansa either. Someone, maybe Gerly, mentioned that they are not good with luggage, not dependable much of the time, etc. We flew down on Sansa and back on Nature Air in March. Everyone was smooth and ontime with both airlines. I'll have to keep my fingers crossed. Even if they fly into Pavas, as long as we depart on time, I THINK I could make it onto the 12:50 flight barring some sort of traffic delay from Pavas. But with so much riding on it, I just really don't like the stress of having to worry about that tight of a schedule.

I keep telling myself that perhaps if worse came to worse I could get on the 2:50 Continental flight, but who knows?

Thanks for a great trip report Tully. Now I'm thinking I should take my kids to Bosque del Cabo! Not sure how child friendly it is. I'd love to hear more about the Friends of the Osa. Are they getting closer to their goal of securing a wildlife corridor?
Sorry the wildlife wasn't out in force at Playa Nicuesa. We saw lots when we there. Did you use the trail maps? I didn't have problems finding my way about but maybe there is more leaf fall now...

hi kpie, I forget how old your kids are but if they were fine at PN I would think they would be fine at BdC. I've never seen a huge amount of kids there but I've been told they have a ton of them around Easter time.

If you check out the FOO site, on 'success stories' you can see the area that makes up the corridor. I think this must also explain, in large part, why so many animals at BdC, i.e. they have that corridor from Corc Park all the way down to Cabo Matapalo. Hopefully more land owners (present & new) will join in & commit.

Yeah, I don't know what it was about PN, the wildlife & trails. Maybe it was just the time of year and they hadn't had a much work done on the trails when I was there? The leaves were so thick that you could never really tell when you were on the trail.

I definitely think your kids would love BdC, plus the pool is great (though nippy!).

tully -- I was trying to figure out how on earth I missed your trip report, but then I realized most of it was written before we returned on 6/4. Thanks once again for your helpful insight! I was considering Playa Nicuesa as well last time around, and I'm just not sure I want to take any time away from BDC to go there. It sounds gorgeous and different though, and the swimming and kayaking are a nice draw, but I love my monkeys and trails at BDC! On the other hand, I'm still curious about Drake Bay and Los Caletas and also MA, even though I know it's touristy. Decisions, decisions!
