Margarita Island

What five star hotel would you recommend on Margarita Island and why?

I would recommend the Hilton Suites. It is very expensive but well worth it. The pool is very excellent. My buddy and I stayed there from November 10th through the 19th, 2001 and felt very safe. We took the taxi into town also. Don't worry about the crime. I never felt threatened for one minute. Just be alert and speaking Spanish comes in very handy. The people there were some of the nicest that I ever met.

Ditto, Hilton Suites. Excellent 5* hotel.
Pros:
1. Near shopping mall and the 4 de mayo street (shopping also).
2. Excellent rooms.
3. Excellent pool.
4. Good nearby restaurants and pubs (Señor Frogs, las Churuatas, bakerys (panaderías))
Cons.
1. The beach is no good. - Solution: There is transportation to the better beaches, Playa el Agua, Parguito.

Try the following excursions:
1. Isla Coche - day trip (either take a catamaran or the day all inclusive with the Speed Paradise Hotel people).
2. Canaima - well worth your $. Although expensive, never seen anything more impressive than the flat top mountains, and falls.
3. Arestinga lagoon - although the beach there is not excellent, the boat trip to the beach (1 hour) is well worth it).

Look no further..the Hilton is the best in Margarita..it can be a little expensive but well worth it. The beach is really gross..don't even bother to touch it.Just take a cab or rent a car to enjoy the other nice beaches in the island. I live in Caracas and know the island by heart so trust me..you won't find a better place.

Having visited isla margarita once 3 years ago, I thoroughly enjoyed an all inclusive resort called Laguna Mar.

It's a beautiful resort.. and there was so much to do with all the organized activities (salsa dance lessons, volleyball tournaments, nightly shows, on-site nightclub, more)+ good food and open bar included in the price. The resort also offered bus ride outings to Senor frogs.

I think I would have been bored by comparison if staying at the Hilton. What can you do there besides gamble?

Rooms at Laguna mar were large and nice, with cable tv w/a couple of english language channels. I would guess the Hilton's rooms may be a bit more luxurious, but you would not be disappointed in Laguna Mar's accomodations.

We rented a jeep for two days and went to Playa Agua beach which I highly recommend.

Be aware that away from resorts and hotels, few people on the island speak english

What Darrell says is true, although I would like to add my two cents.

The rooms, (although nice, are not luxurious (I stayed there April 2001)).
the beach (nice),
pools (great),
casino (I don't gamble, but it's very nice),
nite shows (excellent),
bar service (excellent),
activities (excellent),
food (alrite - not great but a lot of variety),
room service (excellent).

Those would be my ratings.

Ana,

I recently tried to contact Laguna Mar via emails that I found after doing a search on Yahoo: [email protected],[email protected],and [email protected]. All emails were bounced back.

What's more, Apple tours no longer lists Laguna Mar/Isla margarita on any of their tours. Apple was the largest tour operator, to my knowledge, which ran charters and packages to Laguna mar.

Have you heard anything about the Laguna Mar hotel having problems? I would appreciate any contact info that you may have.

Hi Darrell:
Some friends of ours stayed there this past Dec. and told us that the hotel isn't what it used to be, but it was nice. They spent one week there, and then stayed at the Dunes for the rest of their stay. They highly reccommended the Dunes. Food was excellent, and the activities at the resort were great.

Ana, I checked those sites. Didn't see any air/hotel packages from US, just hotel info.

Thanks anyway for the links and for the tip on the Dunes. Until Apple or another tour operator from the US starts offering air/hotel packages, I'll probably vacation somewhere else

My close friend is a Tour guide and said that some Russian people that he is currently working for while they are here on the island had him take them to a condo that they reserved but on the spot flat out refused, then to Lagunamar they said NO...obviously they wanted the BEST. So my friend brought them to Isla Bonita Hesperia ....wow they were knocked out and loved it. They had lots of money and are now looking into buying condo's or a hotel on the island. My friend got to bring them to their room and was in the hotel for a bit and he was really wowed with how beautiful this hotel is and you can play golf here too.

check into this hotel...if money is not an object and you're interested in a true 5 star place with all the luxuries.
