Manuel Antonio to Monteverde

I will be taking a trip to Costa Rica in a week and will be driving a rental van. There are 9 of us! How long will the drive from Manuel Antonio to Monteverde take? We are trying to get up there by 2pm for a Canopy Tour. Thanks!

I just came back from there! We drove the other way and it took us around 3 hours. But we had a 4WD vehicle (part of the road to Monteverde is a little rough). If you're driving a van I'd leave Manuel Antonio by 9am to ensure you get there with time for lunch, etc.

Thanks a bunch! We are really excited about this trip. Are the roads pretty well marked? Basically, what are the odds we will get lost?

Between Manuel Antonio and Monteverde it's pretty easy (not the case on all the roads!). You shouldn't get lost. It's basically one good road all the way up to the turnoff for Santa Elena/Monteverde, lots of signs. And once you're on that turnoff, you can't get lost.
We did get lost a few times driving around in Costa Rica so the best thing to do if you're confused when you get to an intersection...STOP, turn around and double check the signs or ask someone.

There's no way you're going to do this drive in around three hours.
For comparison, look at any map, MA to San Jose with good paved roads is a three hour drive.
