Maleria in Mexico

We are going to Cancun and my doctor suggested to take tablets against catching maleria. How prevelant is maleria over there, is it necessary to take them? Also I belive there is different types of medicines against maleria, which ones are the best for Mexico. Thank you for any replies.

I would look at the Center for Disease Control site regarding malarial risk in Mexico for more information. According to them there is little malarial risk in urban areas. Then I would discuss this information with you doctor.

If you are not adverse to DEET, 3M's Ultrathon as a mosquito repellant has proven effective for us here in Mexico as well as in Panama (incl Darien) and Costa Rica.

Cancun and the Coast are officially malaria-free.

The interior of QR is NOT.

The State of Yucatan is officially
malaria-free.

It's great how those bugs can read maps!

I lived in Mexico for 4 years, going many times to and around Cancun; I never took a malaria med and never got sick.I don't think you need it.
