Helicopter to Machu Picchu, travel to Bolivia

I will be traveling to South America for 12 days over Christmas and I'm trying to do a lot in those 12 days. I arrive in Lima late Dec. 20. I'd like to get to Cuzco/Machu Picchu on the 21st then get to La Paz or Cochabamba on the 22nd.

Two Questions:
1. The earliest flight I can find from Lima to Cuzco on the 21st arrives at 7:30am, too late to catch the train to Machu Picchu, is there and earlier flight or another means to reach the ruins? I read a helicopter service used to run from Cuzco, is that still in operation? I know Cuzco/MP deserves more that 1 day but I'm trying to do the most with my 12 days.

2. What is the best way to get from Cuzco to Bolivia (La Paz or Cochabamba)? The two options I was looking into were a LAN flight through Lima or Rail Peru to Puno, a ferry to Copacabana, and a bus to La Paz. I'd like to take in the Andean scenery but as mentioned before I'm short on time. I will have more money than time. I'll also be solo.

Gracias para la ayuda.

Inkaterra operates helicopter service in summer but I don't think it runs during low season. Rates depend on the number of passengers but range from $900 to $2000.

Check with www.inkaterra.com (but I doubt they run in December).

Thanks RBCal, when I get a chance I'll give them a call and post what they say.

I called Inkaterra and they told me the helicopter does not operate in December so I am at a loss. Has anyone arrived on the afternoon LAN flight from LAX and made it to Machu Picchu the next day?

I find that coordinating international flights to Peru with domestic flights within Peru never to work out exactly as I want. There is no flight from Lima to Cusco that will get you there in time to catch that early-morning train to MP. It sounds like you're on about the earliest flight.

There are no late afternoon or evening flights to Cusco either because of weather conditions late in the day making it iffy to fly.

It's not a hardship to be stuck in Cusco. There is a lot to see and and do there.

Bolivia's LAB Airlines flies between Cusco and La Paz, I think just two days a week.

it definitely seems that you are trying to fit a lot in a short time, but also keep in mind that you will need to acclimate to the altitude in the Andes as this could take a lot in your health.
