Mal Pais/Montezuma lodging

Hi Everyone,
We've decided to visit Costa Rica for our honeymoon in July. I am looking for hotel suggestions for Mal Pais and Montezuma. We would like hotels that are relatively quiet at night (no late night bar/drunk pool rowdiness), but still fun. Should we be looking for hotels with a/c? The Blue Jay Lodge looks amazing, but I'm wondering if it gets too hot in July and if there will be lots of crazy bugs. Our price range is around $100 per night. I've been looking at Moana Lodge, The Place, Vista las Olas, and La Hacienda in Mal Pais; and Amor de Mar and Hotel El Jardin in Montezuma. La Hacienda wanted the cost of our entire stay wired to them as a deposit. That seems a bit nuts to me. Is that typical? Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I am also planning a trip to Costa Rica in August and am interested in visiting the same area for some beach time before we move on to other things. Can anyone suggest some beach areas that are beautiful not to terribly expensive and not impossible to get to?

P.S. 9limes...Blue Jay does look incredible but I wonder if there are screens on the windows, I've read conflicting reports.

I stayed at Amor de Mar in March. It was beautiful- right along the ocean with great hammocks. It was quite hot in Montezuma without an a/c for two Bostonians. My husband and I each took a different bed and woke up early to cool off in the tide pool.

Based on the grounds and the reports from people who have stayed there, I would second Amor del Mar.

As for Blue Jay, we had no bugs in the rooms like many of the other places because the entire cabin was screened. We were quite cool there because you are up in the woods and have tons of ventilation. They set up additional fans for you, too.

I third Amor de Mar. It was so pretty! Plus, it's on the other side of town so it'll be nice and quiet at night. We were there in November and didn't need AC.

Thanks everyone for your replies. We booked at the Tropico Latino, Blue Jay Lodge, and Amor de Mar. I can't wait!

If we were to go back those are the exact three hotels we would pick. I think you'll be happy.
