Lodging near SJO

We will arrive late and want to spend the night near the airport-- any suggestions for hotels? Also should we go back to the airport to pick up our rental car the next AM or do some of the rental agencies deliver the cars to the hotel? And if so, which agencies?
Thanks.
Jeanne

This forum recommended the Orquideas Inn to us. We have reservations but aren't going until April. Looks nice, funky and the food/bar are supposed to be good. http://www.orquideasinn.com/
Don't know on the car rentals. Rides to and from airport by Orquideas are $12.

Orquideas is a good inexpensive choice. I wish they would upgrade their sheets, but it always fits our needs.

There are a couple of Marriotts in the vicinity of the airport-a regular one, courtyard, and a residence, the last 2 are in Escazu. None offer shuttle service anymore from the airport to the hotels although something to consider if you're a rewards member.

Casa Bella Rita or Alegria B&B. Both get high marks on Trip Advisor. CBR a little more elegant, but Alegria very nice too and extremely reasonable.

If you want a city hotel, Grano de Oro is nice, and they have a great restaurant on site.

We're staying our first and last night at Pura Vida, which has a great reputation on this board as well as Trip Advisor. The owner (Berni) even arranged our rental car as well, which will be brought to the hotel whenever you'd like. While I haven't been there yet, they have been wonderful with communication via email, extremely helpful, and informative.

I recommend Orquideas as well and have always stayed either first and last night or both on my trips to CR.

Tricolor delivered our car to the Orquideas Inn.

Where are you headed the next morning? Orquideas Inn is ideally located if you're headed West to Manuel Antonio or Arenal, or to Poas.

I had a good experience at Pura Vida and enjoyed the hospitality provided by Berni, Max (the lead doggie), and Nhi's dinners. If you are heading west then it is in the right direction.
