I've read about Todos Santos in other threads and it sounds interesting. I think our reservations at Club El Moro are pretty flexable and we could cut our departure date short by a couple of days and do the loop. Do you think we could just wing it and find places to stay (we aren't very fussy about accomodations), or would we need reservations? The dates would be late Feb./early Mar.
Thanks, Bill! You're great to help me so much.
Suze, also.

Dunno for sure ... what I'd do is wait until a week or so before leaving and then contact a couple of the hotels and ask how full they were ... if all are plugged it's not a good idea to wing it, if they have openings I'd chance winging it ...
In Todos Santos we stayed here, which was very nice ... two Americans own and operate it so no problems emailing ... http://www.todossantosinn.com/ .. this one is also supposed to be OK in TS ... http://www.mexonline.com/haciendatodoslossantos.htm ... if you stay in TS make sure you eat at the Santa Fe Cafe, some of the best food I've had in Mexico.
For East Cape (Cortez side), I'd either stay at Punta Colorado if you want to get away from it all (except the fishermen staying there at the time) or Palmas de Cortez if you want at least a small cantina nearby ... here's the site for PC, one of my favorite places in Baja http://www.vanwormerresorts.com/puntacolorada.htm ... you can find a link to Palmas from the same page (same couple own both).
Have fun!

FYI, Suze and Bill: my husband did indeed get the time off approved, we have the hotel and also booked direct flights to and from for only $400 each. I couldn't be more excited! When I was booking the flights and entering our passport info I realized that DH's passport is due to expire the day we leave in February! I had to do a lot of scrambling, but thanks to all the posters on the Europe board (including Suze), I figured out how to get it expedited and I think that was the last hurdle to this vacation. DH even gave me a new Rough Guide for Baja for Xmas, so I'm totally set. Thanks again to both of you (and everyone else who responded).

Yeah!!! That IS wonderful news. And yes I did give a big gulp when I saw your passport question over on the Europe board! I think it's really best that you are able to fly in direct. You can still do a drive around if you want to, but you'll have the freedom to figure that out now after you arrive, rather than be forced into dealing with Cabo.

Well, I guess I didn't put "direct to San Jose/Cabo", not La Paz. It was hundreds more to fly into La Paz so we'll have to make the drive north from the San Jose airport. But, yes, it will be great to have a car and the freedom it provides.

No biggie. Sorry I mis-read. Alaska used to fly a reasonably priced direct flight to La Paz, but it didn't last long, so guess was not profitable to them. With the drive as outlined, it sounds like an ideal trip. I've always been interested in Todos Santos and yet to make it there.
