July Weather in Playa Del Carmen?

I am planning our first trip to Mexico for my family this summer. Unfortunately the only month that both of our kids are out of school at the same time is July. I have had differing opinions from friends about whether or not it would be too hot to enjoy our trip during that month.
We live in northern California where the weather in July is typically 100 degrees or so in July but not humid.
For those of you who have been to this area of Mexico in July....Can you still see some of the sights without melting? We are interested mostly in water activities but would be doing some shopping and sightseeing too.
Thank you so much for any input you might have.

I have basically the same question so am topping this thread. \ One addition: would it be any more comforatble, weather -wise in Cozumel or Isla Mujeres?

Thanks,
jan

Historical stats for this area in July show an average high of 90 and an average low of 78; those for June and August are the same or within a degree of the same, as well. Of course it's humid, so it'll feel more like that northern CA 100 degrees but dry. Can't imagine there'd be much difference between PDC, Cozumel and Isla Mujeres, but others may want to chime in on that point.

Even the Texans complain that the humidity and heat is really, really, really bad.

I would choose Isla simply because it is only 4 blocks wide thus allowing the breezes to blow thru better.

I don't imagine there'd be a whole heck of a lot of difference between Isla Mujeres and Cozumel...what I MIGHT worry just a tad about in July would be the possibility of a big storm coming through, July being into the annual hurricane and tropical storm season, and the whole Mexican Caribbean coast being in the usual storm target zone...not a HUGE risk, but it's there...

Have fun!

Thanks for the replies.
So, what would any advantages/disadvantages of any of the three (Cozumel, Isla, Playa). We are 2 families, one from Calif. one from Fla., wanting to rent a beach house for a week, do some touring, eating, reading, catching up.
Thanks,
jan

We were in Playa, Cozumel, and Cancun in early July two summers ago. We found it quite comfortable in each place - plenty of ocean breezes and temperatures about the same as you would expect anywhere in the southeast US. We live in Virginia, so we are used to summer days in the 90's with humidity to match, so I guess it depends on what you are used to.

By the way, for the best mix of beaches, restaurants and things to do, we strongly preferred Playa.

Have fun!

Cancun area is your best bet. Compared to Cancun, Cabo is not considered warm during January and the Pacific waters are very cold at that time.

We've gone twice in August and it is indeed very hot and humid. It's not that bad at the resorts and on the beach as long as you are near the water. The heat was not a problem there. But it is hot in town - you just have to get into an air conditioned store occasionally. The hottest thing was going to Tulum and Chitchn Itza - that was unbelievably hot, but worth it, especially Chitchen Itza. Just take plenty of water with you.
